Short-Term Energy Outlook

Aug 11, 2026
Global oil market assumptions. We have increased our estimates of Middle East shut-in crude oil production in the coming months compared with our July forecast due to continued severe constraints on Strait of Hormuz transits, which we assume persist through August. We expect most crude oil production in the region to return to near pre-conflict averages in early 2027; however, we expect ongoing disruptions of about 0.6 million barrels per day to continue through the end of next year.

U.S. Energy-Related Carbon Dioxide Emissions, 2025

Jul 21, 2026
According to our recently released report on 2025 energy-related CO2 emissions, U.S. CO2 emissions from the consumption of fossil fuels totaled 4,904 million metric tons (MMmt) in 2025, an increase of around 2% (115 MMmt) from 2024. The most notable changes occurred in the electric power sector, associated with increased electricity demand and a larger presence of coal in electricity generation, and in the residential and commercial sectors, associated with increased demand for space heating.
