Analyses of Selected Provisions of Proposed Energy Legislation: 2003

This study responds to a July 31, 2003 request from Senator Byron L. Dorgan. The study is based primarily on analyses EIA has previously done for studies requested by Congress. It includes analysis of the Renewable Portfolio Standard, Renewable Fuels Standard, production in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge, the construction of an Alaskan Natural Gas pipeline, and various tax provisions.

Electric Power Monthly

The latest issue is now available on EIA's Electricity page. The publication was redesigned beginning with the April 2003 issue to incorporate improved statistics and provide more detailed data. This report now shows tables that are separated into two main categories: Electric Power Sector (Electric Utilities and Independent Power Producers) and Combined Heat and Power Producers (Commercial and Industrial.) All data pertaining to these categories are presented together, thus providing an integrated view of the electric power industry. Additionally, the level of aggregation was also revised. The lowest level of aggregation is at the State level, with greater detail available in other Web products. Also, the publication provides rolling 12-month totals in the national overviews, as appropriate. Appendix D describes the reasoning behind the changes and their effect on electric power publications. View an on-line summary of the publication.

Analysis of S. 485, the Clear Skies Act of 2003, and S. 843, the Clean Air Planning Act of 2003

This report responds to a July 30, 2003, request from Senator James M. Inhofe. Senator Inhofe requested that the Energy Information Administration analyze the impacts of S. 843, the Clean Air Planning Act of 2003 and S. 485, the Clear Skies Act of 2003. The report analyzes the impacts of limits on nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, mercury and carbon dioxide (for S. 843) emissions from electricity generators. As requested by Senator Inhofe, for S. 485, analysis is included with and without the mercury provisions and, for S. 843, analysis is included with and without the mercury and carbon dioxide provisions.

Monthly Natural Gas Time Series Data, by State -- An Update

EIA's Monthly Natural Gas Time Series, by State, have been updated. The updated series are: (1) Prices, and (2) Production & Use. The series start from January 1998 and go through April 2003. The data are extracted from the Oil and Gas Information Resource System (OGIRS). On the EIA States page, click on the desired State on the US Map and then select the desired time series under Natural Gas; Or, from the right column of the EIA States page you can go directly to the EIA Monthly Time Series for each State.

EIA Requests Comments on Proposed New Liquefied Natural Gas Storage Survey

EIA issued a Federal Register notice soliciting public comments on proposed new survey Form EIA-913, ¿Monthly and Annual Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Storage Reports.¿ Comments must be filed by November 17, 2003.

Request for Comments on the Form EIA-860

"Annual Electric Power Industry Data" files are now available on EIA's Electricity Database Files Page. The files are presented in spreadsheet and DBF formats. Preliminary Form EIA-861 data files include such information as peak load, generation, electric purchases, sales, and revenues.

Special Release Time for the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) will release the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR) at 11:15 a.m. (Eastern Time) on September 11, 2003. This change is being made in response to a request from the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) that the EIA postpone the September 11, 2003 release of the WNGSR. On that day, those NYMEX markets, including natural gas, that normally open at 10:00 am or later will have a delayed opening at 10:51 a.m. NYMEX plans a special tribute in memory of the 21 members and former members of the Exchange and the New York Board of Trade who perished in the attack on the World Trade Center Towers on September 11, 2001. The Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report will resume its normal 10:30 a.m. release time on Thursday September 18, 2003.

EIA's Monthly Petroleum Product Time Series Data, by State, have been updated. Click on the desired State on the US Map and then select the desired time series under Petroleum; Or, from the right column of the EIA States page you can go directly to the EIA Monthly Time Series Data for each State. Four sets of petroleum products time series have been updated: (1) Prices, (2) Sales -- Transportation Fuels, (3) Sales -- Other Fuels, (4) Stocks. Financial News for Independent Energy Companies

Today the Energy Information Administration released a report that reviews recent financial performance of major U.S. oil and gas companies. Data presented are for April through June 2003. Oil and natural gas producers led the way in earnings growth for the 45 independent energy companies included in this report, as earnings for independents as a whole grew 113 percent in the second quarter of 2003 over earnings in the second quarter of 2002. The next update, for July through September 2003, will be released in mid-November 2003.

Rooftop solar photovoltaic systems account for 20% of Puerto Rico’s capacity mix ›

Rooftop solar generating capacity in Puerto Rico totaled 1,456 megawatts (MW) at the end of 2025, 20% of the overall capacity mix. Rooftop solar capacity has increased faster than other sources over the past decade. Between 2016 and 2025 rooftop solar installations accounted for 81% of the new generating capacity in Puerto Rico, according to data from our Electric Power Monthly and Puerto Rico Energy Bureau’s (PREB) Quarterly Report on System Data. In 2025, rooftop solar became the second-largest capacity source, after petroleum liquids capacity (3,671 MW), and surpassed natural gas capacity (1,391 MW). More
