Supplemental Tables to the Annual Energy Outlook 2005

Feb 11, 2005
The AEO Supplemental tables were generated for the reference case of the Annual Energy Outlook 2005 (AEO2005) using the National Energy Modeling System, a computer-based model which produces annual projections of energy markets for 2003 to 2025. Most of the tables were not published in the AEO2005, but contain regional and other more detailed projections underlying the AEO2005 projections. The files containing these tables are in spreadsheet formats. A total of one hundred and seventeen tables is presented. (The supplemental tables are currently available in Excel format. The PDF format will be available by the end of February).

Analysis of Alternative Mercury Control Strategies

Feb 1, 2005
This analysis responds to a September 14, 2004, request from Chairmen James M. Inhofe and George V. Voinovich asking the Energy Information Administration (EIA) to analyze the impacts of different approaches for removing mercury from coal-fired power plants. The senators asked that EIA analyze the impact of alternative mercury control strategies, including the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed cap and trade system (EPA-Cap), EPA's proposed mercury maximum achievable control technology (EPA-MACT), and a 90-percent mercury MACT approach. Chairmen Inhofe and Voinovich also requested that EIA assume that EPA's proposed Clean Air Interstate Rule (pCAIR) is in force and that only commercially demonstrated mercury removal technologies can be used.

Electric Power Monthly

Jan 24, 2005
The latest EPM issue (January 2005) is now available on EIA's Electricity page. All monthly data for 2003 has been revised to match the annual data in the recently released Electric Power Annual. However, the FERC 423 natural gas quantities and prices have been amended for an error found in Nebraska. This means that Nebraska and U.S. total data for 2003 for the electric power sector, the electric utility sector, and the average fossil fuel price have been changed. Also all preliminary monthly 2004 data for January through September were revised to accommodate updated information for those months. Data being published in the January 2005 EPM include January through October monthly 2004 data. Historical copies of the EPM tables in Excel format have also been posted on the EIA website, dating back to the May 2003 publication of the EPM. These files can be accessed at the following address: http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/epm_ex_bkis.html

Monthly Electricity Generation, by reactor and by State

Jan 21, 2005
For the first time in 2004, monthly generation dipped slightly below the comparable month in 2003 according to preliminary data. In November 2004, nuclear output was 1 percent less than in November 2003. The slight slip had little impact on the year-to-date total which shows an increase of approximately 3.6 percent in the first 11 months of the year. The cumulative total (720,412,686 megawatt hours--again, based on preliminary data) also continues to outpace the record year, 2002, (711,158,615 megawatt hours).
