Coal Section of the International Energy Annual 2003

Jun 14, 2005
Excel spreadsheets with time series data for the years 1980-2003 on: (1) coal consumption and total primary coal production measured in both million short tons and British thermal units (Btu); (2) anthracite, bituminous, and lignite coal production measured in thousand short tons; (3) carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption of coal measured in both million metric tons of carbon dioxide and million metric tons carbon equivalent; and (4) gross heat content of coal production. Also included are Excel spreadsheets with detailed data for primary and secondary coal production in thousand short tons for the year 2002, coal supply and disposition (including imports and exports) in trillion Btu for 2002, and updated estimates of recoverable coal. Please note that data on the production and consumption of oil shale in Estonia have been added to our coal data this year. Oil shale is included with the lignite coal production. Important Note: The Energy Information Administration reviews its databases each year and important revisions are made to the time series data of individual countries during this review. Therefore, data in the International Energy Annual 2003 may have been substantially revised relative to previous editions.

Assessment of Selected Energy Efficiency Policies

Jun 8, 2005
This report responds to a request from Senator Byron L. Dorgan requesting a quantitative analysis of the impacts of various energy efficiency policies. The policies include tax incentives, appliance efficiency standards, building code revisions, increases in mileage requirements for new vehicles based on revised testing procedures, voluntary energy reduction programs, and energy efficiency performance standards for suppliers of electricity and natural gas. The report includes estimates of the policy impacts through 2025 compared to the reference case of EIA's Annual Energy Outlook 2005

Short-Term Energy Outlook June 2005

Jun 7, 2005
Quarterly short-term energy projections for supply, demand, and price for the major fuels through 2006 for the U.S. International oil forecasts are included.

Financial News for Independent Energy Companies

Jun 7, 2005
The report reviews recent trends in the financial performance of independent energy companies, which are typically smaller than the majors and do not have integrated production/refining operations. Data are for the period January through March 2005 and compiled from company press releases. All three types of energy companies included in this report -- independent oil and natural gas producers, oil field service companies, and refiner/marketers -- had increased income over the year-ago quarter, as crude oil prices, natural gas prices, and gross refining margins all increased. The next update, for April through June 2005, will be released in September 2005.

International Petroleum Monthly - May 2005

Jun 2, 2005
This report contains monthly world oil production data through March 2005 and OECD country oil demand, imports, and stocks data through February 2005. Also included are international oil balance data for 2000-2004, annual oil data series for 1970-2004, and the Energy Market Chronology for April 2005.

June 2005 Petroleum Marketing Monthly

May 31, 2005

Financial News for Major Energy Companies, First Quarter 2005

May 31, 2005
Reports recent financial performance of major U.S. oil and gas companies. Data are for the January through March time period of 2004 and 2005 and are collected from company press releases. The U.S. majors reported $20.4 billion of net income in the first quarter of 2005, which was 44-percent greater than these companies reported for the first quarter of 2004.

May 2005 Natural Gas Monthly

May 27, 2005
Natural and supplemental gas production, supply, consumption, disposition, storage, imports, exports, and prices in the United States. This report is updated during the first week of each month.

Natural Gas Section of the International Energy Annual 2003

May 26, 2005
Excel spreadsheets with time series data for the years 1980-2003 on: (1) the consumption and production of dry natural gas measured in both cubic feet and British thermal units (Btu); (2) carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption and flaring of natural gas measured in both million metric tons of carbon dioxide and million metric tons carbon equivalent; and (3) gross heat content of both dry natural gas consumption and dry natural gas production. Also included are Excel spreadsheets with detailed data for natural gas production and dry natural gas supply and disposition (including imports and exports) for the year 2002 and estimates of proved reserves of natural gas as of January 1, 2004. Important Note: The Energy Information Administration reviews its databases each year and important revisions are made to the time series data of individual countries during this review. Therefore, data in the International Energy Annual 2003 may have been substantially revised relative to previous editions.

Monthly Energy Review

May 25, 2005
EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; and data unit conversions. For January-April, preliminary statistics show petroleum consumption up 1.2 percent in 2005 vs. 2004; petroleum production down 1.7 percent; and petroleum net imports up 4.7 percent. Included in this month's report is an Energy Plug on EIA's Impacts of Modeled Recommendations of the National Commission on Energy Policy. See What's New in the Monthly Energy Review for a record of recent changes in this report.

Nuclear Generation Tables

May 25, 2005
Nuclear generation continues modest decline in 2005. Nuclear generation in January 2005 was only one percent less than in January 2004. It is wise to not attribute too much significance to a single month's data, especially when the difference is modest, but historically, record annual outputs have begun with strong showings in January. According to preliminary data, February 2005 output dropped even lower, 4.9 percent less than in February 2004. The State Summary Table (PDF, EXCEL) or the reformatted Reactor-level Table (PDF, EXCEL) now include the February data.

EIA¿s Natural Gas Division Survey Form Comments

May 20, 2005
The public comment period for the natural gas forms clearance package, seeking a 3-year extension for data collection activities, concluded Friday, May 6. EIA will review all comments before making a final proposal to OMB later this summer. Please contact: Steve Nalley at 202-586-0959 or snalley@eia.doe.gov should you have questions.

EIA Releases New Monthly Flash Estimates of Electric Power Data

May 19, 2005
This is the Energy Information Administration¿s (EIA) new product, Monthly Flash Estimates of Electric Power Data, which contains preliminary estimates of selected national monthly electricity data. This product is released on a regular basis approximately 45 days after the end of the reporting month, and serves as an early release (approximately 30 days) before the more detailed Electric Power Monthly report. Each new release will present national-level data and charts for the reference month, as well as the previous month, year-to-date summation, and rolling 12-month information for electricity generation, fuel consumption, fuel stocks, electricity sales and revenue, and average retail electricity prices. It will also offer a brief summary of the national-level data to put the information into a useful context.
