EIA to Change Web Addresses of Key Information Releases

On February 22, 2010, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) will change the web addresses for key information releases in the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR) and the Weekly Petroleum Status Report (WPSR). For WPSR, which is released in two parts, the change affects only the morning part of the release which is the initial release of market sensitive information. WPSR files normally updated at 1 p.m., which present the same data in additional formats, will remain in the current location.

The "Cost and Quality of Fuels for Electric Power Plants 2007- 2008" is available on EIA's Electricity page. Between 2007 and 2008, the cost of coal delivered to electric power plants increased 17 percent, from 177 cents per MMBtu to 207 cents per MMBtu. The cost of delivered natural gas increased 27 percent, from 711 cents per MMBtu to 902 cents per MMBtu, over the same time period. For the first time, this publication includes estimates of fossil fuel receipts to fossil-fueled plants under 50 megawatts.
Electric Power Annual 2008

The Electric Power Annual 2008 is now available. In 2008, electricity generation and sales were adversely affected by the weakening economy. Annual net electric power generation decreased for the first time since 2001, dropping 0.9 percent from 4,157 million megawatthours in 2007 to 4,119 million megawatthours. However, the average retail electricity price for all U.S. customers rose 6.7 percent during the year to 9.74 cents per kilowatthour.

The January issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is available on EIA's Electricity page. This issue provides early highlights of November, 2009 electricity data. In November 2009, retail sales of electricity decreased by 4.1 percent compared to November 2008. The average U.S. retail price of electricity decreased 4.1 percent in November 2009 compared to the previous year.

Electric Power Monthly October 2009 data

The latest EPM issue (January 2009) is now available on EIA's Electricity page. Data are for October 2009, during which net generation in the United States dropped by 3.8 percent and consumption of coal for power generation was down by 6.6 percent compared to October 2008. The average retail price of electricity for October 2009 was 9.81 cents per kilowatthour (kWh), 3.9 percent lower than September 2009 when the average retail price of electricity was 10.21 cents per kWh, and 2.3 percent lower than October 2008, when the price was 10.04 cents per kWh.

OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

Based on projections from the EIA January 2010 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could earn $767 billion of net oil export revenues in 2010 and $833 billion in 2011. Last year, OPEC earned $573 billion in net oil export revenues, a 41 percent decrease from 2008. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $154 billion, representing 27 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earning reached $1,553 in 2009, a 42 percent decrease from 2008.

Solar Thermal Collector Manufacturing Activities 2008

In 2008, total solar thermal collector shipments increased nearly 12 percent from a year ago to almost 17 million square feet. Even with this increase, total shipments were 18 percent below the 2006 level.

aggregated quarterly historical coal data for 2003 through 3rd Quarter
2009. This report now includes data for coke and breeze commercial
sales, steam and metallurgical coal imports by Customs District, coke
import and export prices, and average quality for receipts at commercial
and institutional coal users. All data for 2007 are final. All data for
2008 are final, with the exception of other industrial consumption,
electric power sector consumption and stocks. All data for 2009 are
preliminary.
