Yemen Country Analysis Brief

Sep 19, 2013
Although Yemen is not a major hydrocarbon producer relative to some of the other countries in the Middle East, oil and natural gas resources are sufficient to enable exports. However, Yemen’s difficult security environment hinders the production and transport of those resources.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Sep 10, 2013
Monthly average crude oil prices increased for the fourth consecutive month in August 2013, as supply disruptions in Libya increased and concerns over the conflict in Syria intensified. The U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) forecast for Brent crude oil spot price, which averaged $108 per barrel during the first half of 2013, averages $109 per barrel over the second half of 2013 and $102 per barrel in 2014, $5 per barrel and $2 per barrel higher than forecast in last month's STEO, respectively.

Azerbaijan Country Analysis Brief

Sep 10, 2013
Azerbaijan, wholly located within the South Caspian Sea basin, is among the oldest oil producers in the world. Oil and gas development and export is central to Azerbaijan's economic growth and the country is one of Caspian region's most important strategic export openings to the West.

Short-Term Energy Outlook - Market Prices and Uncertainty Report

Sep 10, 2013
The front month futures price for Brent, the world waterborne crude benchmark, increased by $5.72 per barrel to settle at $115.26 per barrel on September 5. Front month futures prices for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil also increased over the same time period but by a lesser amount, to settle at $108.37 per barrel on September 5.

Cost of Natural Gas Used in Manufacturing Sector Has Fallen

Sep 6, 2013
Natural gas has been an important exception to the trend of rising prices for energy sources used by manufacturers. Production of natural gas in the United States increased rapidly beginning in 2007 as a result of resources found in shale formations. That increase in supply has in turn lowered the price of natural gas to manufacturers

Sudan and South Sudan Country Analysis Brief

Sep 5, 2013
South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in July 2011. Most of the oil is now produced in South Sudan, but the country is landlocked and remains dependent on Sudan because it must use Sudan’s export pipelines and processing facilities. In early 2012, South Sudan voluntarily shut in all of its oil production because of a dispute with Sudan over oil transit fees. After nearly 15 months of intermittent negotiations, South Sudan restarted oil production in April 2013. Despite the progress that has been made to reconcile differences, several unresolved issues remain.

Petroleum Marketing Monthly

Sep 3, 2013
In this issue of the Petroleum Marketing Monthly, preliminary June 2013 data show prices for crude oil and many finished petroleum products on the decline. Prime Supplier data show another small month-on-month increase in gasoline consumption in the United States, while consumption of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel and other distillates registered decreases.

Malaysia Country Analysis Brief

Sep 3, 2013
Malaysia is a significant oil and natural gas producer in Asia and is strategically located amid important routes for seaborne energy trade. The country’s oil reserves are the fifth highest in the Asia-Pacific region after China and India. Also, Malaysia was the world’s second largest exporter of liquefied natural gas after Qatar in 2012. Declining oil and gas production growth and rising domestic and regional energy demand is prompting Malaysia to invest in downstream infrastructure such as oil and gas import terminals, storage facilities, and refining capacity to ensure adequate energy supply.

Natural Gas Monthly

Aug 30, 2013
The August Natural Gas Monthly, with data through June 2013, has been released. • Monthly dry gas production for June was 1,989 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 66.3 Bcf/day, level with the revised dry production for May of 2,055 or 66.3 Bcf/day. • Total consumption of natural gas for June 2013 was 1,726 Bcf or 57.5 Bcf/day, an 8 percent decrease from June 2012.

Caspian Sea Regional Analysis Brief

Aug 26, 2013
The Caspian Sea region is one of the oldest oil-producing areas in the world and is quickly growing as a natural gas production hub. EIA estimates 48 billion barrels of oil and 292 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in proved and probable reserves in the Caspian Sea and surrounding basins. However, the Caspian region faces several challenges to oil and natural gas extraction, including difficulties in moving products to world markets and finding sufficient investment for major projects, such as Kazakhstan’s Kashagan oil field.

In February and March, the United States was a net exporter of crude oil to Nigeria ›

The United States exported more crude oil to Nigeria than it received from Nigeria for the first time in February and March 2025. During this period, refinery maintenance on the U.S. East Coast drove down U.S. demand for crude oil imports, including imports from Nigeria, and the relatively new Dangote refinery in Nigeria drove up Nigeria’s demand for inputs, including crude oil it imported from the United States. This marks the first time that the United States was a net crude oil exporter to Nigeria, and structural changes to crude oil trade between the countries suggest this dynamic could occur more frequently.
