U.S. Energy-Related Carbon Dioxide Emissions, 2021

Dec 14, 2022
According to our recently released report on 2021 energy-related CO2 emissions, U.S. CO2 emissions from the consumption of fossil fuels totaled 4,904 million metric tons (MMmt) in 2021, an increase of 7% (325 MMmt) from 2020. This change in emissions is a result of both short- and long-term factors, but most notably a return toward pre-pandemic economic activity. This analysis is based on data contained in the October 2022 Monthly Energy Review.

Short-Term Energy Outlook

Dec 6, 2022
Global oil inventories in our forecast fall by 0.2 million barrels per day (b/d) in the first half of 2023 (1H23) before rising by almost 0.7 million b/d in 2H23. This forecast leaves global oil inventories higher at the end of 2023 than we had forecast in the November STEO, which results in our Brent crude oil price forecast averaging $92 per barrel (b) in 2023, $3/b less than we had forecast last month.

Nov 17, 2022
Iran holds some of the world’s largest oil and natural gas reserves, but crude oil production has fallen since 2017 and natural gas production growth remains limited because of international sanctions and underinvestment. Iran’s crude oil production reached a 30-year low in 2020 as a result of sanctions and the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and output rose slightly in 2021 because global demand increased.

Eastern Mediterranean Regional Analysis Brief

Nov 16, 2022
Natural gas production grew significantly in the Eastern Mediterranean after major offshore discoveries in Egypt and Israel began commercial operations in the 2010s. Cyprus’s natural gas finds are still in the development phase and could significantly increase regional growth once commercial production begins. Development of midstream infrastructure for natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean is still emerging. As of October 2022, Egypt is the only country in the region with liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity, which Israel also uses to deliver natural gas outside the region.
