Duties

Lejla Villar serves as the Assistant Administrator for Integrated Analysis and Statistics. In this role, Lejla directs the creation of EIA’s forecasts and projections, as well as generation of energy demand statistics and projections. Lejla also leads EIA’s integrated statistics program.

Biography

Lejla Villar has supported EIA’s mission for over two decades. From 2023 until 2025, Lejla served as the Director of the Office of Integrated and International Energy Analysis, a pivotal role where she oversaw the production of EIA's flagship analytical products, including the Annual Energy Outlook, Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), and Today in Energy. In this leadership capacity, she also spearheaded numerous initiatives to enhance EIA's modeling capabilities and improve the accuracy of its energy analyses.

Prior to that role, Lejla was the Team Lead for the International Energy Analysis Team within the Office of Integrated and International Energy Analysis. In this role, she directed the collection and dissemination of comprehensive international energy data and statistics, leading efforts to significantly improve data timeliness and relevance. Her responsibilities also included directing global oil market disruption analyses, managing international petroleum liquids supply forecasting, and leading STEO content generation.

Lejla began her career at EIA as a natural gas analyst, gaining extensive knowledge of the natural gas industry and markets. She contributed significantly to team products and served as the natural gas representative on the interagency Hurricane Task Force. Her career progressed into international oil market analysis, including roles where she managed STEO’s international portion and generated supply projections for Latin America and OPEC. She also served as a Senior Advisor to the EIA Administrator and Deputy Administrator, briefing senior DOE and National Security Council staff on energy and global oil markets and managing the strategic planning and modernization of EIA's geospatial program, including the launch of the U.S. Energy Atlas.

Lejla earned her MBA from Georgetown University and BA from The Catholic University of America.
