Duties

Ari Kahan serves as the Director for the Office of Integrated Products, providing leadership and technical direction to EIA’s cross-cutting analysis. In this role, Ari oversees the production of EIA’s flagship statistical reports and analytical outlooks, including the Annual Energy Outlook (AEO), Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), Monthly Energy Review (MER), Today in Energy, global disruption analyses, and the International Energy Statistics database.

Biography

Ari joined EIA in 2016 and has continually spearheaded efforts to enhance major publications, evolve analytical modeling platforms, and increase data transparency. From 2020 to 2026, Ari led the Long-Term Integrated Products Team, where he directed the expansion and modernization of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) and the World Energy Projection System (WEPS). In this role, he championed a major push for transparency, leading the open-sourcing of NEMS and a significant expansion of the Annual Energy Outlook Retrospective. Before serving in that role, Ari was the product manager and analyst for the International Energy Outlook (IEO).

Before joining EIA, Ari spent several years managing a data analytics team at a sustainability consulting firm. Ari entered public service at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where he was awarded the Gold Medal for Exceptional Service for his work reducing pollution from cars and trucks.

Ari earned his MS from the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and his BA from Brandeis University.
