September Natural Gas Monthly, containing data for July 2025

• In July 2025, dry natural gas production increased year over year for the seventh time in the last eight months. Preliminary dry natural gas production in July 2025 was 3,348 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 108.0 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Production was 3.7% (3.9 Bcf/d) higher in July 2025 than in July 2024 (104.1 Bcf/d). Dry gas production was the highest for any month since 1973, the earliest year in this data set. Gross withdrawals also increased from July 2024:
• Gross withdrawals: 4,016 Bcf for the month, or 129.5 Bcf/d
• A 3.2% increase compared with July 2024 (125.5 Bcf/d)
• Highest daily rate for the month since 1980, the earliest year in this data set
• Estimated natural gas consumption in July 2025 was 2,737 Bcf, or 88.3 Bcf/d
• A 0.5% decrease compared with July 2024 (88.8 Bcf/d)
• Second-highest daily rate of natural gas consumption, despite this decrease, for the month since we began using the current methodology for consumption in 2001
• The year-over-year average daily rate of dry natural gas consumption in July 2025 increased in two of the four consuming sectors and decreased in the other two. Natural gas deliveries by consuming sector in July 2025 were:
• Residential deliveries: 113 Bcf for the month, or 3.6 Bcf/d
• A 5.6% increase compared with July 2024 (3.5 Bcf/d)
• Commercial deliveries: 161 Bcf for the month, or 5.2 Bcf/d
• A 9.5% increase compared with July 2024 (4.7 Bcf/d)
• Highest daily rate of commercial deliveries for the month since we began using the current methodology in 2001
• Industrial deliveries: 679 Bcf for the month, or 21.9 Bcf/d
• A 0.9% decrease compared with July 2024 (22.1 Bcf/d)
• Second-highest daily rate of industrial deliveries, despite this decrease, for the month since we began using the current methodology in 2001
• Electric power deliveries: 1,500 Bcf for the month, or 48.4 Bcf/d
• A 2.2% decrease compared with July 2024 (49.5 Bcf/d)
• Second-highest daily rate of electric power deliveries, despite this decrease, for the month since we began using the current methodology in 2001
• Net natural gas imports (imports minus exports) were -461 Bcf, or -14.9 Bcf/d, in July 2025. This net import volume was the lowest for the month since we began tracking net imports in 1973, making the United States a net natural gas exporter. The United States exported 2.8 times more natural gas than it imported in July 2025. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports in July 2025 were 34.6% higher than the LNG exports daily rate in July 2024; the LNG exports daily rate was the highest for the month since we began tracking LNG exports in 1997. In July 2025, the United States exported 14.1 Bcf/d of LNG to 37 countries. Natural gas imports decreased while exports increased year over year in July 2025:
• Total imports: 258 Bcf for the month, or 8.3 Bcf/d
• A 4.8% decrease compared with July 2024 (8.7 Bcf/d)
• Second-highest daily rate, despite this decrease, of natural gas imports for the month since 2012
• Total exports: 719 Bcf for the month, or 23.2 Bcf/d
• A 18.3% increase compared with July 2024 (19.6 Bcf/d)
• Highest daily rate of natural gas exports for the month since we began tracking them in 1973
