Monthly Natural Gas Time Series Data, by State -- an Update

On the US Map click on the desired State and then select the desired time series under Petroleum or Natural Gas; Or, from the right column of the EIA States page you can go directly to the EIA Monthly Time Series Data for each State. Five sets of time series are accessible: The updated NG series: (1) Natural Gas Prices, (2) Natural Gas Production and Sales, start from January 1996 and go through December 2001. The petroleum products series: (1) Petroleum Product Prices, (2) Petroleum Product Sales, (3) Petroleum Product Stocks. They start from were January 1996 and go through January 2002. The data are extracted from the Oil and Gas Information Resource System (OGIRS).

Weekly Gas Storage

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) will begin releasing weekly estimates of natural gas in underground storage for the United States and three regions of the United States on May 9, 2002. General information on the weekly storage survey, including weekly release time, a sample of the presentation format, EIA's policy on using automated retrieval programs (or robots) against the EIA site, and related information products.

Impact of Renewable Fuels Standard/MTBE Provisions of S. 517 Requested by Senators Daschle and Murkowski

In response to a letter from Senators Daschle and Murkowski dated April 10, 2002, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) is providing additional analysis of the impact of the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) ban provisions of S. 517. The Addendum to the service report provides additional analysis of the impact of the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) ban provisions of S. 517, requested by Senators Daschle and Murkowski in a letter dated April 10, 2002. The projected consumer cost of the S. 517 provisions is compared with a Reference Case that assumes a 2 percent oxygen requirement is maintained and that already-scheduled MTBE restrictions or bans become effective in 14 States.

Inventory of Electric Utility Power Plants in the United States 2000

This report is now available in PDF format on EIA's Electricity page. The 2000 report compiles information regarding electric generating plant capacity. The data files contain existing capacity based on the primary energy source (coal, gas, hydro, nuclear, petroleum, and renewable). A 5-year summary (2001-2005) of proposed changes to existing generating units is contained in aggregate tables. Summary data are vailable by NERC region, Federal region, and Census division. U.S. coal-fired generating capacity retired in 2025 was the least in 15 years ›

During 2025, the U.S. electric power sector retired 2.6 gigawatts (GW) of coal-fired generating capacity at four power plants, the least since 2010. At the beginning of 2025, coal plant operators had planned to retire 8.5 GW of capacity; however, 4.8 GW of planned retirements were delayed to a future year, and the operators of two coal plants (1.1 GW) cancelled plans to retire. In addition, the operators of 1.2 GW of capacity planned for retirement in 2027 cancelled their closure plans, and a facility slated to retire in 2026 has delayed its closure until 2029. More
