EIA Updates Web Site on Retail Gas Competition: The Energy Information Administration (EIA) has updated its web site on the status of natural gas industry restructuring in each state as of December 2005, focusing on the residential customer class. As of December 2005, 21 states and the District of Columbia have legislation or programs in place that allow residential consumers and other small-volume gas users to purchase natural gas from someone other than their traditional utility company.

This month¿s report includes the first complete set of preliminary 2005 total energy statistics: U.S. total energy production at 69.1 quadrillion Btu (-1.7% compared with 2004); U.S. net imports of energy at 29.6 quadrillion Btu (+1.5%); and U.S. total energy consumption at 99.8 quadrillion Btu (-0.5%).
