Discussion of the Sample Changes for the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report

Aug 20, 2008
This special report provides details on the recent change in the survey sample for the EIA-912 survey, "Weekly Underground Natural Gas Storage Report." The transition from the old to the new sample began with the release of the Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report on May 22, 2008, and was complete with the release of June 12, 2008 (the affected working gas estimates were for weeks ending May 16, 2008, through June 6, 2008). Prior to implementation of the new sample in the published estimates, both samples were used in parallel to estimate weekly natural gas storage stocks from May 4, 2007, through May 9, 2008. This report describes a change in sampling procedure for the current sample and examines the differences between results from the old and new samples. The results are compared with the monthly data from the EIA-191 survey, as well as with each other.

OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

Aug 12, 2008
EIA estimates that members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) earned $671 billion in net oil export revenues in 2007, a 10 percent increase from 2006. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $194 billion, representing 29 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earning reached $1,137, a 8 percent increase from 2006. Through July, OPEC had earned an estimated $642 billion in net oil export earnings in 2008. Based on projections from the EIA August 2008 Short Term Energy Outlook (STEO), OPEC net oil export revenues could be $1,174 billion in 2008 and $1,228 billion in 2009.

Quarterly Coal Report (QCR) - 1st Quarter 2008

Jul 25, 2008
Provides detailed quarterly coal data for January-March 2008 and aggregated quarterly historical coal data for 2002 through 1st Quarter 2008. Due to the termination of tax credits on December 31, 2007, all coal synfuel plants reported to EIA that they were permanently closed. Therefore, this report has blank entries for coal synfuel consumed or produced in the 1st Quarter of 2008. However, if plants had product on hand in this quarter, data on the disposition of that product is included in this report. After the 1st Quarter 2008, EIA will no longer collect or report new data on coal synfuel plants. Also, due to the unavailability of 1st Quarter 2008 electric power data, the report does not include corresponding quarter information on that sector. All data for 2007 and prior years are final, with the exception of electric power sector data. All data for 2008 are preliminary. View an on-line summary of the publication.
