Financial News for Major Energy Companies for Third Quarter 2002

Today the Energy Information Administration released "Financial News for Major Energy Companies." This report is based on aggregated publicly available earnings and related information of U.S. major energy companies. The report presents a short-term review of financial and operating data and an analysis of the companies' worldwide petroleum, worldwide downstream natural gas and power, chemical, and other operations for the latest reporting period, July through September 2002. The report includes two tables and three figures.

Status of State Electric Industry Restructuring Activities

This site provides an overview of the status of electric industry restructuring by state and topics. A retail access timeline and customer participation in retail access spreadsheets are also included on the site's main page. Each state's page covers regulatory orders, legislation, investigative studies, and other topics related to restructuring and deregulation. State pages have links to state regulatory commissions and major utilities.

Monthly Petroleum Products Time Series Data, by State -- an Update

EIA's Monthly Petroleum Products Time Series Data, by State have been updated. On the EIA States page, click on the desired State on the US Map and then select the desired time series under Petroleum; Or, from the right column of the EIA States page you can go directly to the EIA Monthly Time Series Data for each State. Four sets of Petroleum Products time series have been updated: (1) Prices, (2) Sales -- Transportation Fuels, (3) Sales -- Other Fuels, and (4) Stocks. The series start from January 1997 and go through September 2002. The data are extracted from the Oil and Gas Information Resource System (OGIRS).

Middle Atlantic Appliance Report 2001

This brief statistical report, released today, compares long-term trends in the market share of air-conditioning and other appliances in the Middle Atlantic (New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) to nationwide trends. The new data for 2001 show that gas appliances, particularly ranges and clothes dryers, continue to be more prevalent in the Middle Atlantic than in the United States as a whole.

EIA Requests Comments on the Release Time for the Weekly Petroleum Status Report

EIA issued a Federal Register notice to solicit public comments on a proposed change in the policy for the release time of the Weekly Petroleum Status Report. Under the proposed policy, the release time would be changed to coincide with normal New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) trading hours. Comments must be filed by January 2, 2003.

Detailed Financial and Operating Data from the Financial Reporting System

Today the Energy Information Administration released advance copies of tables containing financial and operating statistics of the major U.S. energy companies that report to the Financial Reporting System. The tables will appear as Appendix B in Performance Profiles of Major Energy Producers 2001, that will be published in January 2003.

EIA Requests Comments on Forms Used for Reporting in Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Waste Disposal Program

EIA issued a Federal Register notice soliciting public comments on Forms NWPA-830C, ¿Delivery Commitment Schedule,¿ and NWPA-830G ¿Standard Remittance Advice for Payment of Fees.¿ These forms are used by DOE in the program for disposal of spent nuclear fuel and high-level waste. Comments must be filed by January 27, 2003.

Form EIA-826 Current and Historical Monthly Retail Sales, Revenues, and Average Revenue per Kilowatthour by State and by Sector

This Excel spreadsheet table consists of monthly data by State, from January 1990 through June 2002. Revenue data are in 1,000 dollars, sales in megawatthours (MWh), and average revenue per kilowatthour in cents (a proxy for price). Data source is EIA-826, ¿Monthly Electric Utility Sales and Revenue Report with State Distributions.

Annual Steam-Electric Plant Operation and Design Database

The preliminary 2001 Form EIA-767, "Steam Electric Plant Operation and Design Report," database file is presented in spreadsheet format. It is now available on EIA's Electricity Database Files page. The database file includes annual data from all U.S. plants with existing or planned organic-fueled or combustible renewable steam-electric plant that has a generator nameplate rating of 10 megawatts or larger. The database provides information regarding steam-electric plant operations and equipment design, including boilers, generators, cooling systems, flue gas particulate collectors, flue gas desulfurization units, stacks and flues. The final database will be available at a later date

International Petroleum Monthly - November 2002

Early Release of the Annual Energy Outlook 2003

The AEO2003 presents midterm forecasts of energy supply, demand, and prices through 2025, which are based on results from EIA¿s National Energy Modeling System (NEMS). The complete report will be released in early January 2003.

New England Appliance Report 2001

Data for 2001 are included in this brief statistical report, which compares long-term trends in the market share of air-conditioning and other appliances in New England to nationwide trends. The new data show that, in 2001, the share of New England households with central air-conditioning remained low compared with the share of households nationwide. In 2001, 14 percent of New England households had central air-conditioning, compared with 55 percent of U.S. households.

EIA Requests Comments on the Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey

EIA issued a Federal Register notice soliciting public comments on the proposed reinstatement of the Forms EIA-871A/I and the proposed new EIA-871J to be used in the 2003 Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS). CBECS collects baseline data on energy consumption and expenditures in commercial buildings, and on the energy-related characteristics of those buildings. Comments must be filed by January 6, 2003.

Regional Gasoline Costs of Driving

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) updates the "Transportation Calculator" for new model years! Choose your car or SUV and see the gasoline part of the cost of driving in various parts of the country using EIA's current weekly prices. This application uses DOE/EPA's Fuel Economy Guide to set the MPG, but you can change it to compare your estimate of your car's mpg to the average of everyone else who takes the test.

EIA Announces Policy for Revisions to Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report

EIA has issued a Federal Register notice announcing its policy for revisions to weekly estimates of working gas volumes held in underground storage facilities at the national and regional levels disseminated in EIA¿s Weekly Natural Gas Storage Report (WNGSR). Under this policy, revisions shall be disseminated in the WNGSR according to the established schedule and shall occur when the effect of reported changes is at least 7 billion cubic feet at either a regional or national level. Revisions shall not be disseminated outside the established schedule. This policy is effective November 12, 2002.

Monthly Nuclear Generation by State, 2002

In July, the U.S. nuclear industry generated over 70 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in a single month for the second time in history. The only previous time was in January 2002. Nuclear generation for the first 7 months of 2002 remains ahead of last year's record pace. EIA's reactor-level table (updated with data from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission) supports EIA's projection of nuclear generation increasing over the record 2001 level.
