State Natural Gas Consumption, Price, and Expenditure Data Through 2003

State-level natural gas consumption, price, and expenditure data through 2003 by sector (residential, commercial, industrial, transportation, and electric power) are now available at http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/states/_seds_updates.html. Natural gas consumption is provided in physical units (billion cubic feet) and British thermal units (Btu); prices in nominal dollars per million Btu; and expenditures in million nominal dollars.

Renewable State Profiles

Financial News for Independent Energy Companies

Today the Energy Information Administration released the Financial News for Independent Energy companies for July through September 2005. The report reviews recent trends in the financial performance of independent energy companies, which are typically smaller than the majors and do not have integrated production/refining operations.
All three types of energy companies included in this report -- independent oil and natural gas producers, oil field service companies, and refiner/marketers -- had increased income over the year-ago quarter, as crude oil prices, natural gas prices, and gross refining margins all increased. The next update, for October through December 2005, will be released in March 2006.
U.S. Natural Gas Imports and Exports: 2004

This report looks at recent trends in U.S. international trade of natural gas. It focuses on natural gas trade by pipeline to Mexico and Canada, and recent developments in U.S. participation in global LNG trade as well as longer-term trends. The article also discusses the amount of additional LNG import capacity proposed for development during the next several years. A special appendix to this report contains a set of tables with extensive historical data on U.S. natural gas imports and exports. Information in this appendix includes volumes and prices by source country and border crossing.

The nonutility source and disposition of electricity data for 2004 was collected on the Form EIA-906, ¿Power Plant Report,¿ and Form EIA-920, ¿Combined Heat and Power Plant Report.¿ The data is published in MS Excel format, and includes gross generation, station use, direct use, retail sales, and sales for resale.

The new EIA website launched on November 28. The new design improves the site's basic navigation, look and feel, and usability. The basic design incorporates a customer focused approach centered on more intuitive topic names, understandable and consistent navigation paths, less clutter on the home page, and one consistent design for the second-level pages (one click off the home page).
Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; and data unit conversions.
Preliminary statistics show that U.S. energy consumption over the first 8 months of 2005 was 0.5% greater than over the first 8 months of 2004; production was down 0.3%; and net imports were up 0.1%. Also included in this month's report is an Energy Plug on the "Annual Coal Report 2004." See "What's New in the Monthly Energy Review" for a record of changes.

The latest, November 2005, issue of the MFE of Electric Power Data is now available on EIA¿s Electricity Publications page. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the September electricity data. Annual Electric Generator Database

The Final 2004 database for the Form EIA-860, ¿Annual Electric Generator Report,¿ is now available on EIA¿s Electricity page. The data file contains generator specific information for existing and proposed electric utility and nonutility plants. Data on prime mover, energy sources, nameplate capacity, net summer capacity, net winter capacity, and date of initial operation are included. For the first time, the database contains information about the fuel switching and co-firing ability of the generators.
