Total primary energy consumption in Brazil has increased significantly in recent years, due to sustained economic growth. In addition, Brazil has made great strides in increasing its total energy production, particularly oil, over the past decade. Increasing domestic oil production has been a long-term goal of the Brazilian government, and recent discoveries of large offshore, pre-salt oil deposits could transform Brazil into one of the largest oil producers in the world.

All data for 2007 are final. All data for 2008 are final, with the exception of other industrial consumption, electric power sector consumption and stocks. All data for 2009 are preliminary.

Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions. In preliminary statistics, total energy production in the United States during the first half of 2009 compared with the first half of 2008 was up slightly, total energy net imports were down 8%, and total energy consumption was down 6%. Monthly Flash Estimate

The September, 2009 issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is now available on EIAs Electricity page. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the July, 2009 electricity data. Annual Coal Report 2008

In an effort to provide data to the public sooner, EIA is releasing the majority of the 2008 Annual Coal Report tables with preliminary data. The remaining tables will be released when the entire report is completed. The 2008 Annual Coal Report is expected to be available late in 2009 after the electric power data is finalized. Please note that the average mine price tables now reflect the blended prices of open and captive markets instead of only open market prices.

The latest EPM issue (September 2009) is now available on EIA's http://www.eia.doe.gov/fuelelectric.html. Data being published in the September 2009 EPM include June 2009 data. Historical copies of the EPM tables in Excel format have also been posted on the EIA website, dating back to the May 2003 publication of the EPM. OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

Based on projections from the EIA September 2009 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could earn $559 billion of net oil export revenues in 2009 and $675 billion in 2010. Last year, OPEC earned $971 billion in net oil export revenues, a 42 percent increase from 2007. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $288 billion, representing 30 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earning reached $2,688 in 2008, a 40 percent increase from 2007.
