The February, 2009 issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is now available on EIAs Electricity page. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the December, 2008 electricity data.

The Energy Information Administration has released the 2005 Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS) public use microdata files to the web for data users who wish to conduct their own detailed analysis of U.S.
residential energy consumption and expenditures. The files are in comma-delimited format.
All RECS data files from 1987 forward are also available through the same site.

The latest EPM issue (February 2009) is now available on EIA's http://www.eia.doe.gov/fuelelectric.html. Data being published in the February 2009 EPM include November 2008 data. Historical copies of the EPM tables in Excel format have also been posted on the EIA website, dating back to the May 2003 publication of the EPM. The final 2007 edition of the FERC-423 annual data file now available in Excel format on EIAs electricity database page.
The FERC-423 electric utility data file includes information on type of fuel purchase, fuel cost, fuel type, fuel origin, fuel quantity and fuel quality. Data source is survey FERC Form No.423: "Monthly Report of Cost and Quality of Fuels for Electric Plants."

OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

Based on projections from the EIA February 2009 Short Term Energy Outlook (STEO), members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could earn $402 billion of net oil export revenues in 2009 and $530 billion in 2010. Last year, OPEC earned $971 billion in net oil export revenues, a 42 percent increase from 2007. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $288 billion, representing 30 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earning reached $2,688 in 2008, a 40 percent increase from 2007.

Light-Duty Diesel Vehicles: Efficiency and Emissions Attributes and Market Issues

This report responds to a request from Senator Jeff Sessions for an analysis of the environmental and energy efficiency attributes of light-duty diesel vehicles. Specifically, the inquiry asked for a comparison of the characteristics of diesel-fueled vehicles with those of similar gasoline-fueled, E85-fueled, and hybrid vehicles, as well as a discussion of any technical, economic, regulatory, or other obstacles to increasing the use of diesel-fueled vehicles in the United States.

This announcement highlights the upcoming changes so data users will have sufficient time to plan for the change. PDF and CSV formats have been revised to reflect data changes. Data contained in the PDF and CSV files are test data. HTML (Navigator) links will be added later.
Changes to the monthly petroleum supply surveys (Forms EIA-810 through 820) and associated published products are planned for the end of March 2009 with data for January 2009. Affected published products include:
- Petroleum Supply Monthly (PSM)
- Annual Refinery Capacity Report
- Petroleum Navigator
Changes to the above mentioned products include adding renewable fuels, showing fuel ethanol supply and demand, and incorporating ethanol production (formerly published in PSM Appendix D) into petroleum supply and disposition tables.

State-level energy production annual time series through 2006 are now available in the State Energy Data System (SEDS). Tables include: coal, crude oil, and natural gas production estimates in physical units and British thermal units (Btu); total energy production estimates in Btu comprising fossil fuel production, renewable energy production, and nuclear electric power generation; rankings of production by State; and comparisons of State-level production and consumption. Time series cover 1960-2006 except for natural gas and total production, which span 1970-2006.

EIA-423 Cost and Quality of Fossil Fuel Receipts Web Files for January through December 2002-2007

The Monthly Cost and Quality of Fossil Fuel Receipts Data Files have been updated. Final 2007 data are now posted. These data files include nonutility receipts of fossil fuels at generating plants with a nameplate capacity of 50 or more megawatts. The data include the specific energy source, quantity of fuel delivered, the Btu content, sulfur content, ash content, coal mine state and county (or country) of origin, coal mine type (surface/underground), as well as the supplier of the fuel. Fuel cost data collected on this survey will not be made available to the public because it is protected.

The Monthly Generation and Fuel Consumption Data Files have been updated. Final 2007 data are now posted, and revised data are posted for 2004-2006, including the revisions to fuel consumption due to a new methodology for calculating consumption for electricity generation and useful thermal output (UTO) at combined heat and power (CHP) plants. These data files include utility and nonutility generation, fuel consumption, and stocks data, and are available as Excel files on EIAs Electricity Publications page.
