Monthly Energy Review

EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics: total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions. In preliminary statistics, total energy production in the United States during the first half of 2009 compared with the first half of 2008 was up slightly, total energy net imports were down 8%, and total energy consumption was down 6%. Monthly Flash Estimate

The September, 2009 issue of the Monthly Flash Estimate (MFE) of Electric Power Data is now available on EIAs Electricity page. MFE provides an early look at the highlights of the upcoming Electric Power Monthly publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. MFE precedes the next issue of EPM by three weeks. The current issue covers an early review of the July, 2009 electricity data. The publication is available both in PDF and Excel formats and can be accessed at the following address: http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/flash/flash.html

Annual Coal Report 2008

In an effort to provide data to the public sooner, EIA is releasing the majority of the 2008 Annual Coal Report tables with preliminary data. The remaining tables will be released when the entire report is completed. The 2008 Annual Coal Report is expected to be available late in 2009 after the electric power data is finalized. Please note that the average mine price tables now reflect the blended prices of open and captive markets instead of only open market prices.

Electric Power Monthly

The latest EPM issue (September 2009) is now available on EIA's http://www.eia.doe.gov/fuelelectric.html. Data being published in the September 2009 EPM include June 2009 data. Historical copies of the EPM tables in Excel format have also been posted on the EIA website, dating back to the May 2003 publication of the EPM. OPEC Revenues Fact Sheet

Based on projections from the EIA September 2009 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) could earn $559 billion of net oil export revenues in 2009 and $675 billion in 2010. Last year, OPEC earned $971 billion in net oil export revenues, a 42 percent increase from 2007. Saudi Arabia earned the largest share of these earnings, $288 billion, representing 30 percent of total OPEC revenues. On a per-capita basis, OPEC net oil export earning reached $2,688 in 2008, a 40 percent increase from 2007.

Estimates of Peak Underground Working Gas Storage Capacity in the United States, 2009 Update

This report provides estimates of aggregate peak working gas capacity and working gas design capacity for the U.S. underground natural gas storage as of April 2009. The estimates for national and regional peak working gas capacity are based on the demonstrated maximum working gas volumes for individual active facilities from May 2004 to April 2009. Peak storage estimates are based on monthly data by field from the Form EIA-191M survey, "Monthly Underground Storage Report," which collects data on storage volumes as of the end of the report month.

State-Level Energy Consumption, Price, and Expenditure Data (SEDS) Through 2007

Over the first 7 months of 2009, U.S. production of crude oil and natural gas plant liquids was 1.4 percent higher than the first 7 months of 2008; petroleum net imports were 8.3 percent lower; and petroleum consumption was 6.1 percent lower. U.S. crude oil production rose in 2025, setting new record ›

U.S. crude oil production grew by 3%, or 350,000 barrels per day (b/d), in 2025, setting a new annual production record of 13.6 million b/d, according to our latest Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO). Production from the Lower 48 states excluding the Gulf of America (L48) accounted for 11.3 million b/d, or 83% of the total U.S. crude oil production in 2025. The rest of the production came from Federal Gulf of America (GOA) and Alaska. More
