Oil and Gas Excel Files to Change on November 9

Oct 12, 2007
Most Excel (XLS format) files found on petroleum and natural gas web pages will change on November 9. These changes are necessary to resolve navigational and formatting issues affecting some versions of Excel. In addition, the new files will provide more background information about the data. Users who extract data from these files programmatically are especially advised to take note of the changes. More

Federal Register Notice submitted to the OMB for Review and three-year extension for Electric Power Forms

The Federal Register carried the EIAs proposed collection changes to forms used to collect electric power industry data in the United States. The announcement opens up a thirty-day comment period when interested parties may respond to the proposals with comments by October 29, 2007. The FRn, proposed forms and instructions, supporting statement, and an outline of changes made to the forms and instructions since they were published in the April 4, 2007 Federal Register notice are posted on the EIA website at:

International Petroleum Monthly - September 2007

Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic Collector Manufacturing Activities, 2006

The Energy Information Administration's (EIA) recently released report indicates that both solar thermal collectors and solar photovoltaic power devices continued their double-digit growth in 2006. Total shipments of solar thermal collectors increased 29 percent to 20.7 million square feet, while total shipments of photovoltaic cells and modules increased nearly 50 percent to 337,268 peak kilowatts between 2005 and 2006.

In preliminary statistics, total energy production in the United States during the first half of 2007 compared with the first half of 2006 was down 0.1%, total energy net imports were down slightly, and total energy consumption was up 2.2%.

Excel spreadsheets with time series data for the years 1980-2005 on: (1) net consumption and generation of hydroelectric, nuclear, and geothermal, solar, wind, and wood and waste electric power in both billion kilowatthours and British thermal units (Btu); (2) net conventional thermal electricity generation, total net electricity generation, and total net electricity consumption in billion kilowatthours; (3) electricity imports and exports in both billion kilowatthours and Btu; and (4) gross heat content of hydroelectric power, nuclear electric power, and geothermal electric power, solar and wood and waste electric power, and wind electric power. Also included are Excel spreadsheets with time series data for January 1, 1980-January 1, 2005 on electricity installed capacity by type. Important Notes: (1) The Energy Information Administration reviews its databases each year and important revisions are made to the time series data of individual countries during this review. Coal Data for the International Energy Annual 2005

Excel spreadsheets with time series data for the years 1980-2005 on: (1) coal consumption and total primary coal production in both million short tons and British thermal units (Btu); (2) anthracite, bituminous, and lignite coal production in thousand short tons; (3) carbon dioxide emissions from the consumption of coal measured in both million metric tons of carbon dioxide and million metric tons carbon equivalent; and (4) gross heat content of coal production. Also included are Excel spreadsheets with detailed data for primary and secondary coal production in thousand short tons for the year 2004, coal supply and disposition (including imports and exports) in trillion Btu for 2004, and updated estimates of recoverable coal. Important Notes: (1) The Energy Information Administration reviews its databases each year and important revisions are made to the time series data of individual countries during this review. Therefore, data in the International Energy Annual 2005 may have been substantially revised relative to previous editions.
