System for the Analysis of Global Energy Markets - Vol. II, Model Documentation

August 1, 2003

Introduction

As described in Volume 1, SAGE (System for the Analysis of Global Energy markets) is a bottom-up world energy model made up of individual regional or country level models. When all regions are included in a SAGE run, the results total world energy. Over and above the features available in existing models of this type, SAGE allows for time-stepped optimization and intra-period market adjustment algorithms. Complete documentation of the SAGE model is available in two volumes. Volume 1 provides a description of the SAGE approach for the general reader, the model user, and the programmer. Volume 1 also lists and provides vendor contacts for obtaining the necessary proprietary software.1 This volume provides a guide to understanding the specific implementation behind each of the SAGE regional Reference Energy Systems. It describes the naming conventions, which are so important to the SAGE system and provides the reader with enough information to properly modify many important elements of the RES.
