Visitor Access and Security Policy: DOE Forrestal Building
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) headquarters, which houses the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), is in the Forrestal Building located at 1000 Independence Avenue, SW in Washington, D.C.
Pre-authorization requirement
All visitors to the Forrestal Building must be pre-authorized and have a designated DOE/EIA sponsor prior to being granted access to the facility. Visitors should coordinate with their EIA host in advance to ensure their name and entry details are submitted to the security office.
Security screening
Upon arrival, all pre-authorized visitors must present valid, government-issued photo identification (such as a driver's license or passport) and be prepared to undergo security screening. All individuals entering the facility must submit to a personal inspection, which may be conducted using metal detectors, handheld monitoring devices, or via physical inspection. Additionally, all personal belongings, bags, and packages are subject to inspection and must be passed through an x-ray screening machine.
