U.S. ENERGY INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION
WASHINGTON DC 20585

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2022

MEDIA ADVISORY:
EIA updates format for monthly Short-Term Energy Outlook

The U.S. Energy Information Administration will publish its November Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) in an updated format. The STEO will still include the same energy sector forecasts and analyses as before, but with a new layout we believe will better highlight the most critical aspects of our monthly forecast.

The STEO data tables remain the same, so reporters and users focused on specific energy commodities can still find our forecasts for price, production, consumption, storage, and other factors of energy commodities in the same sections as in previous STEO editions.

API users will similarly be able to pull data using the same API calls as before.

Key updates to the STEO format include:

  • Two new tables in the overview section that show key forecast series and highlight revisions from previous forecasts
  • Regrouped topic sections that provide a better balance across fuels, and an additional section that provides a deeper analysis of the electricity sector
  • Additional data visualizations in the text portion of the STEO to provide more context to our analyses
