The Monthly Energy Review (MER) is the U.S. Energy Information Administration's primary report of recent energy statistics. Included are total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions.

Electricity Monthly Update

Released: August 25, 2014

Provides analysis and highlights of the data included in the Electric Power Monthly (EPM) publication and presents tables of electricity generation, fuel consumption for generation, fossil fuel stocks, and average retail sales and prices of electricity. The Electricity Monthly Update is published at the same time as the EPM.

Electric Power Monthly

Released: August 25, 2014

Provides monthly statistics at the state, Census division, and U.S. levels for net generation, fossil fuel consumption and stocks, quantity and quality of fossil fuels, cost of fossil fuels, electricity sales, revenue, and average revenue per kilowatthour of electricity sold. (archived versions)

Domestic Uranium Production Quarterly Report

Released: July 23, 2014

Summary production statistics of the U.S. uranium Industry.

Assumptions to the Annual Energy Outlook

Released: June 11, 2014

This report presents the major assumptions of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) used to generate the projections in the Annual Energy Outlook, including general features of the model structure, assumptions concerning energy markets, and the key input data and parameters that are the most significant in formulating the model results.

Uranium Marketing Annual

Released: May 12, 2014

Summary information on uranium purchases and sales for the U.S. industry.

Annual Energy Outlook

Released: May 7, 2014

The projections in the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA's) Annual Energy Outlook 2014 (AEO2014) focus on the factors that shape the U.S. energy system over the long term. Under the assumption that current laws and regulations remain unchanged throughout the projections, the AEO2014 Reference case provides the basis for examination and discussion of energy production, consumption, technology, and market trends and the direction they may take in the future. It also serves as a starting point for analysis of potential changes in energy policies.

Domestic Uranium Production Report - Annual

Released: May 1, 2014

Data on drilling, mining, production, shipments, facilities, employment and expenditures in the U.S. uranium production industry.

Electric Power Annual

Released: December 12, 2013

Presents 12 years (2001 - 2012) of national-level data on electricity generating capacity, electricity generation and useful thermal output, fuel receipts, consumption, and emissions. This year's Electric Power Annual has expanded to include several new table series. These include several new annual breakouts of renewable biomass energy sources including wood/wood waste, landfill gas, and biogenic municipal solid waste in Chapter 5 (Consumption of Fossil Fuels); state details of emissions from energy consumption at conventional power plants and combined-heat-and-power plants (Table 9.5); and monthly capacity factors for the past three years and annual capacity factors back to 2008 (Tables 4.8.A. and 4.8.B.) (archived versions)

Annual Energy Outlook - Nuclear Section

Released: May 2, 2013

Nuclear projections to 2040.

Supplemental Tables to the Annual Energy Outlook

Released: May 1, 2013

The Annual Energy Outlook (AEO) Supplemental tables were generated for the reference case of the AEO using the National Energy Modeling System, a computer-based model which produces annual projections of energy markets. Most of the tables were not published in the AEO, but contain regional and other more detailed projections underlying the AEO projections.

State Nuclear Profiles

Released: April 26, 2012

Presents a summary of current and recent historical data for the nuclear power industry. The data focuses on net summer capacity and net generation for each state, as well as plant specific information for 2010.

When Do Commercial Reactors Permanently Shut Down?

Released: May 10, 2011

For those wishing to obtain current data, the following resources are available: U.S. reactors, go to the Energy Information Administration's nuclear reactor shutdown list. (Note: As of April 30, 2010, the last U.S. reactor to permanently shut down was Big Rock Point in 1997.) Foreign Reactors, go to the Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) on the International Atomic Energy Agency's website.

What is the status of the U.S. nuclear industry?

Released: April 22, 2011

Energy in Brief article on the U.S. nuclear industry.

U.S. Nuclear Power Plants: Continued Life or Replacement After 60? (released in AEO2010)

Released: May 11, 2010

Nuclear power plants generate approximately 20% of U.S. electricity, and the plants in operation today are often seen as attractive assets in the current environment of uncertainty about future fossil fuel prices, high construction costs for new power plants (particularly nuclear plants), and the potential enactment of greenhouse gas regulations. Existing nuclear power plants have low fuel costs and relatively high power output. However, there is uncertainty about how long they will be allowed to continue operating.
