February 2024 Import Highlights

Monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in February 2024 show that one country, Canada, exported more than one million barrels per day to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 81% of United States crude oil imports in February while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 93% of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top five sources of U.S. crude oil imports for February were Canada (4.1 million b/d), Mexico (532,000 b/d), Saudi Arabia (251,000 b/d), Guyana (227,000 b/d), and Colombia (171,000 b/d). The remaining top ten sources, in order, were Brazil (170,000 b/d), Nigeria (154,000 b/d), Iraq (152,000 b/d), United Kingdom (146,000 b/d), and Venezuela (142,000 b/d). Total crude oil imports averaged 6.5 million b/d in February, which was a decrease of 90,000 b/d from imports during January 2024.

Canada remained the largest exporter of total petroleum to the United States in February; exporting 4.8 million b/d. The second largest exporter of total petroleum was Mexico with 690,000 b/d.
