In order to help both old and new reporters avoid gaps in reporting, EIA has developed a Microsoft Excel-based version of Form EIA-1605. This spreadsheet-based form will allow entities to continue reporting to the Program while work on enhancing the Internet-based electronic reporting form is being completed. Additionally, the spreadsheet version of Form EIA-1605 will allow for a seamless transition between the first and second iterations of the Internet-based electronic form.

The 30 U.S. companies participating in the Program represent a diverse range of industries. However, the majority of reporting entities are utility companies with 14 companies identifying themselves as utilities, including 6 investor-owned utilities and 8 municipal utilities, nonprofit utilities, or independent power producers. The other 16 entities represent sectors including: manufacturing; transportation; finance; professional, scientific and technical services; health care; and agriculture.
