April Natural Gas Monthly, containing data for February 2026

  • In February 2026, dry natural gas production increased year over year for the 11th straight month. Preliminary dry natural gas production in February 2026 was 3,080 billion cubic feet (Bcf), or 110.0 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Production was 4.9% (5.1 Bcf/d) higher in February 2026 than in February 2025 (104.9 Bcf/d). Daily dry natural gas production was the highest for the month of February since 1973, the earliest year in this dataset. Gross withdrawals also increased from February 2025:
    • Gross withdrawals: 3,753 Bcf for the month, or 134.0 Bcf/d
      • A 4.9% increase compared with February 2025 (127.8 Bcf/d)
      • Highest daily rate for the month of February since 1980, the earliest year in this data set
  • Estimated natural gas consumption in February 2026 was 3,110 Bcf, or 111.1 Bcf/d
    • A 3.8% decrease compared with February 2025 (115.4 Bcf/d)
    • Second-highest daily rate of consumption, despite this decrease, for the month of February since 2001, the earliest year in this data set
  • The year-over-year average daily rate of dry natural gas consumption in February 2026 decreased in three of the four consuming sectors. Natural gas deliveries by consuming sector in February 2026 were:
    • Residential deliveries: 720 Bcf for the month, or 25.7 Bcf/d
      • A 9.5% decrease compared with February 2025 (28.4 Bcf/d)
    • Commercial deliveries: 443 Bcf for the month, or 15.8 Bcf/d
      • A 10.0% decrease compared with February 2025 (17.6 Bcf/d)
    • Industrial deliveries: 716 Bcf for the month, or 25.6 Bcf/d
      • A 2.2% decrease compared with February 2025 (26.1 Bcf/d)
    • Electric power deliveries: 947 Bcf for the month, or 33.8 Bcf/d
      • A 1.6% increase compared with February 2025 (33.3 Bcf/d)
      • Highest rate of natural gas electric power deliveries for the month of February since 2001, the earliest year in this data set
  • Net natural gas exports (exports minus imports) were 507 Bcf, or 18.1 Bcf/d, in February 2026. This net export daily volume was the highest for any month since we began tracking net trade in 1973. The United States exported 2.8 times more natural gas than it imported in February 2026 as natural gas imports decreased while exports increased year over year:
    • Total natural gas imports: 276 Bcf for the month, or 9.9 Bcf/d
      • A 6.8% decrease compared with February 2025 (10.6 Bcf/d)
      • Second-highest rate of natural gas imports, despite this decrease, for the month of February since 2011
    • Total natural gas exports: 784 Bcf for the month, or 28.0 Bcf/d
      • A 14.8% increase compared with February 2025 (24.4 Bcf/d)
      • Highest daily rate of natural gas exports for the month of February since we began tracking them in 1973
      • Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports: The daily rate of LNG exports in February 2026 was 20.8% higher than the daily rate in February 2025, the second-highest rate for any month since we began tracking LNG exports in 1997. In February 2026, the United States exported 17.6 Bcf/d of LNG to 32 countries.
