Operator: Entergy Nuclear Operations

Location and Service Territory: The FitzPatrick plant was built by the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation near Oswego, New York. The 900-acre site is also the location of two other General Electric boiling water reactors: Nine Mile Point units 1 and 2. The plants share a common visitor center.

Construction Cost: $1.065 billion (2007 USD)2

Staffing: There are about 650 employees at this facility.

Reactor Descriptions: FitzPatrick has a single, General Electric Type 4, boiling water reactor.

Cooling System: Lake Ontario supplies the cooling water for the condenser of both FitzPatrick and Nine Mile Point unit 1. FitzPatrick uses a once-through cooling system.

Operator: R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, LLC

Location and Service Territory: The Ginna nuclear plant is located on Lake Ontario, east of Rochester, New York.

Construction Cost: $346.15 million (2007 USD)2

Reactor Descriptions: The Ginna reactor is a Westinghouse two-loop pressurized water reactor.

Cooling System: Cooling water is drawn from Lake Ontario through a submerged offshore intake at a rate of approximately 354,600 gallons per minute. It then exits through a discharge canal in a once-through system.

Location and Service Territory: Indian Point is located on a 239-acre site on the east bank of the Hudson River in Buchanan, Westchester County, New York.

Construction Cost: $2.450 billion (2007 USD)2

Staffing: Indian Point Energy Center employs approximately 1,100 workers.

Reactor Descriptions: Both units are Westinghouse four-loop pressurized water reactors.

Cooling System: The plant relies on a once-through cooling system using water from the Hudson River.

Operator: Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, LLC

Location and Service Territory: The Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station is near Syracuse, New York. It is located on a 900-acre site that is shared by the FitzPatrick nuclear plant.

Construction Cost: $804.7 million (2007 USD), Unit 2: 8.529 billion (2007 USD)2

Reactor Descriptions: Both of the units are General Electric boiling water reactors; however, unit 1 is a Type 2 whereas unit 2 is a Type 5.

Cooling System: The cooling system draws water from Lake Ontario. Unit 2 relies on a natural draft cooling tower that is 543 feet high.
