MECS Definitions of Energy Terms
First Use of Energy for All Purposes: Unduplicated demand for energy by manufacturers. "First Use" is defined as :
Not included are byproducts from feedstock use of energy (see below).
Energy for Nonfuel Purposes (Feedstocks): Energy used for purposes other than for heat, power, and electricity generation (called nonfuel purposes), such as :
Fuel Consumption: All energy used for heat, power, and electricity generation, regardless of where the energy was produced.
Not included is energy for nonfuel purposes (see above).
Offsite-Produced Fuel Consumption: All energy used for heat, power, and electricity generation that is :
Not included are feedstocks (see above) and onsite-produced energy.
Byproducts: A secondary or additional product resulting from the feedstock use of energy or the processing of nonenergy materials. For example, the more common byproducts of coke ovens are coal gas, tar, and a mixture of benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX).
