A number of general technologies can contribute to increased efficiency and productivity in manufacturing. These include adjustable-speed motors, computer control of processes or major energy-using equipment, computer control of building environments, and waste heat recovery. Most frequently cited in the U.S. metalcasting industry in 1998 is the use of computer control of processes (about 38%). [MECS 1998]
