Aggregate electricity demand for Florida balancing authorities continues to recover day-over-day since the lows seen early Monday. Florida demand exceeded 38,100 MW 3 pm Friday afternoon, in-line with pre-hurricane levels the week before Hurricane Irma made landfall.

Power outages in Florida's 10 biggest utilities as of 12 pm Friday affected 1.6 million customers—17% of the utilities' total number of customers and roughly 800,000 fewer customers than 12 pm Thursday.

Aggregate electricity demand for Florida balancing authorities continues to recover day-over-day since the lows seen early Monday. After peaking at 30,535 MW on Wednesday, Florida demand exceeded 35,000 MW Thursday afternoon, nearing pre-hurricane levels which ranged roughly between 36,000-43,000 MW.

Power outages in Florida's 10 biggest utilities as of 12 pm Thursday affected 2.4 million customers—24% of the utilities' total number of customers and about 38% of the peak amount of outages seen on Monday.

Aggregate electricity demand for Florida balancing authorities continues to rise after bottoming out early Monday morning. Florida demand neared 29,000 MW Wednesday afternoon after peaking at ~25,200 MW on Tuesday. Peak daily demand exceeded 36,000 MW in the week prior to the hurricane.

Power outages in Florida's 10 biggest utilities as of 3 pm Wednesday affected 3.4 million customers—37% of the utilities' customers. Outages have continued to decline steadily since 6 pm Monday.

Aggregate electricity demand for Florida balancing authorities began to increase significantly on Tuesday after bottoming out early Monday morning. Florida demand exceeded 23,400 MW Tuesday afternoon, the highest total since Saturday, 9/9.

Power outages in Florida's 10 biggest utilities as of 3 pm Tuesday affected 4.8 million customers—51% of the utilities' customers. Outages have declined slowly yet steadily since 6 pm Monday.

Aggregate electricity demand for Florida balancing authorities fell most of Sunday and early Monday reaching a low of ~7,200 MW between 4-7 am Monday (compared to ~20,000 MW on similar days in 2015/2016). Demand has increased over the day but remains lower than the forecast for today and significantly lower than previous years.

Power outages in Florida's 10 biggest utilities as of 3 pm Monday affected 5.6 million customers—60% of the utilities' customers. Outages declined slightly from 12 pm Monday.

Hurricane Irma has made a significant impact on electricity demand in Florida. Electricity demand today for the aggregate of all balancing authorities in Florida is about one-third below the actual demand on the same Monday in 2015 and 2016.

We are starting to see an impact on electricity demand for the aggregate of all balancing authorities in Florida. Electricity demand today is trending well below the last four days. The aggregate forecast demand for Florida is down significantly from the previous Sunday. Much of this dip in demand and the demand forecast appears to be due to Florida Power and Light – the largest utility in Florida.

FPL is Florida's largest utility serving most of southern Florida and along its east coast. FPL's actual demand on Saturday is well below the forecast demand in the middle of the day and is also well below the actual demand on the same day in 2015 and 2016.

The demand forecast for Saturday for the City of Homestead, FL (HST) is about one-half of normal demand for the middle of the day. Actual demand today tracked below the forecast.

Electricity demand for the City of Homestead, FL (HST) shows some of the first storm-related effects. Homestead is located on the southeast coast of Florida and would be one of the first US cities and balancing authorities to experience the hurricane. There are indications of evacuation-related reductions in demand on Friday. The actual demand was well below the forecasted demand.

The 8 am today storm track shows the storm moving up the west coast of Florida, making landfall Sunday afternoon and passing over Tampa.
