Over 99 percent of the electric vehicles made available that year were battery-powered. 56.8 percent had lead batteries, 41.9 percent had nickel metal hydride batteries, and .8 percent had nickel cadmium or advanced lead acid batteries. Less than a half percent of electric vehicles made available in 1998 were hybrids or fuel cell vehicles.
