Updates to Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve
Released: January 5, 2012
During 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) initiated the process of converting the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve from high sulfur heating oil to ultra-low sulfur distillate (15 parts per million). DOE awarded contracts totaling 1,000,000 barrels to two companies, Hess Corporation in Groton, CT, and Global Companies LLC in Revere, MA, for storage contracts of 500,000 barrels each. These sites began receiving deliveries in November 2011 with an anticipated completion in early 2012. Storage volumes for these inventories will be shown in Appendix C of the Weekly Petroleum Status Report as they are received.
