What's New for the Electric Power Annual 2023
The Electric Power Annual 2023 (EPA2023) report is now available with final data through 2023. The EPA2023 presents 11 years (2013–23) of national-level data on electricity generating capacity, electricity generation, and useful thermal output, fuel receipts, consumption, and emissions.
The EPA2023 indicates:
- A 1.1% decrease in utility-scale electric power generation from 2022 to 2023
- A 1.3% decrease in retail sales from 2022 to 2023
- A 2.6% increase in the average residential retail price of electricity from 2022 to 2023
- 42,318 megawatts (MW) of net summer capacity added from new generators in 2023
- 15,238 MW of net summer capacity dropped due to retirements in 2023
EPA2023 changes:
- Table 4.9.A was deleted and table 4.9.B became table 4.9
- Battery energy capacity was added to table 4.9
- “Storage” was changed to “Batteries” in table 4.9 and 4.10
- The “Other Gases” category was renamed to “Other Fossil Gas”
- Hydrogen was moved from the “Other Gases” category to the “Other” category
