Key Terms Definition
Biogas Biogas includes fuel for combined heat and power
Coal A readily combustible black or brownish-black rock whose composition, including inherent moisture, consists of more than 50 percent by weight and more than 70 percent by volume of carbonaceous material. It is formed from plant remains that have been compacted, hardened, chemically altered, and metamorphosed by heat and pressure over geologic time.
Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) A group of hydrocarbon gases, primarily propane, normal butane, and isobutane, derived from crude oil refining or natural gas processing. These gases may be marketed individually or mixed. They can be liquefied through pressurization (without requiring cryogenic refrigeration) for convenience of transportation or storage.
Natural Gas A gaseous mixture of hydrocarbon compounds, the primary one being methane.
Other Fuels Including Renewable Fuels Other fuels including renewables fuel, such as crop and forestry residue.
Biofuel Plants Facility that produces fuel alcohol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, renewable heating oil, renewable jet fuel, renewable naphtha, renewable gasoline and other renewable fuels
Purchased Electricity Electricity purchased for plant operations that is not produced within the plant complex.
Purchased Steam Steam, purchased for use by the plant, that was not generated from within the plant complex.
Purchased Hydrogen The lightest of all gases, occurring chiefly in combination with oxygen in water; exists also in acids, bases, alcohols, petroleum, and other hydrocarbons.
