OSTI's mission is to advance science and sustain technological creativity by making R&D findings available and useful to Department of Energy (DOE) researchers and the American people.
OSTI provides free access to energy, science, and technology information through publicly available web-based systems, with supporting tools and technologies to enable information search, retrieval and re-use. OSTI hosts ScienceLab (www.osti.gov/sciencelab), which features educational resources from the DOE national laboratories and other sources. Students and teachers can find homework help, experiments, science fair ideas, science news, lesson plans, and information on internships, summer camps, scholarships, and science careers The Science Accelerator (www.ScienceAccelerator.gov) provides search capability of 10 key DOE databases, including results of DOE research and development (R&D) projects and programs, descriptions of R&D projects under way or recently completed, major R&D accomplishments, and recent research of interest to DOE. The DOE Data Explorer (www.osti.gov/dataexplorer) provides access to scientific research data such as computer simulations, numeric data files, figures and plots, interactive maps, multimedia, and scientific images generated in the course of DOE-sponsored research in various science disciplines OSTI hosts the USA.gov science portal, Science.gov (www.science.gov), in partnership with 17 organizations within 13 Federal science agencies. Science.gov provides a gateway to over 1,800 Web sites and offers deep Web searching of 36 databases containing R&D information. OSTI also hosts a global gateway to science, WorldWideScience.org (www.worldwidescience.org) providing access to national science portals from more than 40 countries. OSTI electronic products may be accessed through its home page at www.osti.gov, where users may search multiple databases with one query.
