Houston Museum of Natural Science
Founded in 1909 by the Houston Museum and Scientific Society, Inc., the Houston Museum of Natural Science has grown to become one of the highest-attended museums in the United States. The Museum includes the Wortham 3D IMAX ® theater, the Burke Baker Planetarium, and the Cockrell Butterfly Center. As host to world-class touring exhibitions in addition to its diverse and extraordinary permanent offerings, a trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science is always an adventure.
Permanent exhibit halls range from the Paleontology Hall and the Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals, featuring the Lester and Sue Smith Gem Vault, to the John P. McGovern Hall of the Americas, and the Texas-size, state-of-the-art Wiess Energy Hall. The Wiess Energy Hall explores the application of scientific concepts and advanced technology in the oil and gas industry. Explore the entire process of energy development, from how oil and natural gas are formed to the ways in which various types of energy are used. The hall incorporates interactive learning methods such as computer graphics, touch screens, holographic video displays, and virtual reality.
