Notes:
- Gasoline imports provide an important source of supply to the East Coast during the summer. If high gasoline margins continue, we may see higher imports this summer than last. Usually imports are strongest during the first part of the summer.
- The high margins earlier this year brought in unusually high imports in January and February. The preliminary data are showing total gasoline imports higher than we have ever seen for these months at 700 and 630 MB/D respectively.
- Will imports play the same role for gasoline this summer that they did for distillate? Because of the many kinds of gasoline and unique blends, it is unlikely that imports can “protect” against regional price spikes to the same degree, but they certainly can help.
