• Consistent with spot prices, residential propane prices have been higher all winter than during the past several years. The recent surge is mainly the result of the surge in natural gas prices -- something that we have not seen to this degree before.

• In January prices averaged about $1.66 per gallon, compared to last year’s $1.08 and the prior year’s very low $0.89.

• As with other heating fuels, the high prices for propane this winter have put a strain on many homeowners’ budgets.
