U.S. Total Gasoline Inventory Outlook
Sources: History: EIA; Projections: Short-Term Energy Outlook, December 2000.
Notes:
Gasoline inventories in the United States began last summer’s driving season low and ended low.
In October 2000, with the market focusing on distillate, gasoline inventories slipped well below the normal range. Some regions, such as New England, were particularly low.
EIA’s current forecast is for gasoline markets to remain relatively tight through next year.
As of December 8, gasoline inventories were 3% below last year’s levels and 2% below the 5-year averages.
