• This chart shows the stock pattern behind the scenario just summarized. As shown here, much of the excess inventory would be removed by year end 1999.

• This requires that petrochemical demand stay high during the summer, and also stay somewhat elevated during the winter, as it has during the past few years.

• Residential demand also picks up during the winter to help draw down stocks.
