Retail Unbundling - South Carolina |
---
Status: The State has no unbundled services for residential customers.
Overview: South Carolina currently has no laws or pilot programs for unbundling natural gas services in the State. Legislation (Act No. 175) passed in 2004 restructured the State’s public service commission (PSC) and transferred some of its functions to a new office of regulatory staff. The PSC hears cases involving regulated companies, and the office of regulatory staff represents the public before the PSC and assumes responsibility for regulation of the State’s utility companies.
EIA State Data: In 2004, South Carolina had 527,008 residential and 55,817 commercial customers. They consumed 29 and 22 billion cubic feet of natural gas, respectively. The average prices paid for natural gas purchased from local distribution companies by residential and commercial customers were $12.00 and $10.81 per thousand cubic feet, respectively.
