Retail Unbundling - Alaska
Status: The state has no unbundled service
programs for residential customers.
Overview: No retail unbundling program for
residential customers is being considered at this time by either the Alaska
Public Utilities Commission or the state legislature. Only commercial and
industrial customers are able to purchase gas directly and have it transported
by utilities.
EIA State Data: In 2003, Alaska had 100,404 residential
and 14,502 commercial customers who each consumed 17 billion cubic feet of
natural gas. The average prices paid for natural gas purchased from local
distribution companies by residential and commercial customers were $4.39 and
$3.58 per thousand cubic feet, respectively.
