In July, natural gas production in the Lower 48 states rose 0.4 percent or 0.35 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Other States had the largest volumetric increase at 2.2 percent or 0.67 Bcf/d primarily because of new wells coming online in the Marcellus and Utica shale. New Mexico was up 1.7 percent or 0.06 Bcf/d as a result of many operators reporting new wells and small increases in production. Louisiana had the largest decrease in production at 3.6 percent or 0.20 Bcf/d, which was largely attributable to natural decline and shut-in wells.

Note: Data presented in the table are monthly natural gas gross withdrawals estimated from data collected on the EIA-914 survey. In 2012, data are from the EIA Natural Gas Annual. Gross withdrawals are converted to marketed natural gas production which is reported on the EIA website in the Natural Gas Data Tables, and in the Natural Gas Monthly and Natural Gas Annual reports. Marketed production is calculated from gross withdrawals by subtracting gas used for repressuring, quantities vented and flared, and nonhydrocarbon gases removed in treating or processing operations.
