Energy-Management Activities

Manufacturers may conduct a number of energy-management activities to improve the efficiency of energy use. In the steel industry, the top four reported activities in 1998 included the purchase of electricity under special rate schedules (e.g., time-of-use rates), electricity load control, energy audits, and power factor correction or improvement. Overall, about 53.3% of the steel industry population reported engaging in at least one energy-management activity. [MECS 1998]
