On January 18, 2000, El Paso Energy Corp. and The Coastal Corp. announced the execution of definitive agreements for the merger of the two companies, which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2000. The merger is valued at approximately $16 billion, including $6 billion of assumed debt and preferred equity.
