Duties

Tom Leckey is the Assistant Administrator for Energy Statistics. In this role, Tom directs information programs covering energy consumption and efficiency; electricity; nuclear and renewable energy; oil, natural gas, and coal supply; and petroleum and biofuels production and marketing. Tom also manages the EIA data collection program, statistical methods, and quality control for weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and quadrennial statistical reports.

Biography

Tom has worked at EIA for 21 years. From 2010 to 2016, Tom was the Director of EIA's Office of Energy Consumption and Efficiency Statistics, where he was responsible for EIA's national field surveys on energy demand in residential units, commercial buildings, and manufacturing establishments. Tom was also responsible for EIA's survey on alternate-fueled vehicles.

From 2009 to 2010, Tom directed the Coal, Nuclear, and Renewables Division, leading surveys that captured data on coal consumption and production, uranium marketing and reserves, solar and geothermal equipment distribution, and biodiesel production. Tom also worked as a Team Leader in the Electric Power Division, managing surveys on electric utility sales and electric reliability. Prior to that, Tom worked in EIA's forecasting group, developing detailed electric plant information and building transmission network models.

Tom has a MPA degree from the University of Southern California, and a MA degree in History and a BA degree in History, both from the University of Virginia.
