A Report from Energy Ant — My Trip to Norfolk Southern's Lamberts Point Coal Terminal on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia
Since the United States has the largest reserves of coal in the world, lots of our coal is shipped (exported) to other countries. So I came with the teachers to the Norfolk Southern Corporation's Lambert's Point coal terminal to learn more about how coal travels from mines in the United States to be exported to other countries to help them make steel and generate electricity.
Each day, trainloads of American coal come here to this coal yard in Hampton Roads, Virginia. The coal is loaded onto ships destined for other countries. This trip made all of us realize that lots of countries don't have all of the same resources we have here and that our energy sources are used daily in many ways around the world.
